Last year, we scouted in the Galapagos Islands in preparation for our 2026 retreat. This special destination absolutely blew us away. It is like no other place on the planet, and we cannot wait to host our groups in August and September! That being said, we can also see how visiting Galapagos Islands may not be for everyone.
Here are 9 Reasons NOT to visit Galapagos Islands:
1. You’re not really into animals… especially the wild, weird, and wonderful kind.If close encounters with giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies, sea lions, and marine iguanas don’t spark wonder… this might not be your vibe. If, however, you’re like us and are absolutely mesmerized by wildlife, especially the kind ONLY find in Galapagos, this place is for you!
2. You prefer five-star spas over saltwater swims. The Galápagos is rich in natural luxury to enjoy instead of spending all day within your luxury resort. Think snorkeling with sea turtles, and THEN sipping poolside cocktails. And we promise to share our favorite spots to grab a cocktail on each of the islands!
3. You like your nature behind glass. This is the real deal, nature raw and up close. If museums and zoos are more your pace, the Galápagos might feel too… wild. Otherwise, prepare to be surprised and delighted when you encounter a giant tortoise snacking beside the path of your afternoon bike ride!
4. You’re allergic to unplugging.Wi-Fi is spotty at best. If being offline makes you twitchy, this could be a challenge. Or, embrace the opportunity to immerse yourself in the present moment, and rest assured you can send pics from our hotel once we’re back online at the end of the day.
5. You’re looking for nightlife, shopping, and bottomless brunch. The nightlife here is stargazing. The shopping? Maybe a handmade souvenir. It’s magical, but not metropolitan. On the other hand, if you love hidden beaches, and truly wild landscapes, you’re going to be in heaven here.
6. You’re not into conservation or learning about ecosystems.
This archipelago(land) is a living classroom. If you’re not curious about evolution, sustainability, or protecting delicate habitats, the messaging might not resonate. But if exploring and expanding your understand of the land and its inhabitants excites you, know there is so much to learn!
7. You’re uncomfortable around animals with zero fear of humans. The wildlife here doesn’t run. They stare. They chill beside you. If that gives you the creeps instead of awe, fair warning. If you’re anything like us, you will squeal with delight that you can be (safely) close enough the the sea lion family that you can here the baby snore. True story!
8. You dislike boats, hikes, and the occasional sandy foot.Island hopping means boats. Exploring means walking. Beaches happen. If that all sounds like a hassle, this trip might not float your boat. If the idea of lots of active exploration sounds like your idea of a good time, you will love this retreat!
9. You want everything to go perfectly and predictably. The Galápagos teaches surrender. Schedules shift with the tides and the weather. If flexibility isn’t your strong suit, this could be frustrating. But rest assured that along with our guides and hosts, we’ve got you.
